Since you are traveling in the tropics you will have encounters with pesky mosquitoes, particularly when, on occasion, the prevailing trade winds turn around and blow from the directions of the jungle. Bring some insect repellant and use it.

The town of Xcalak is now connected to the power grid which provides electricity to the town 24/7. However, this grid does not extended to any facility located north of the village. Hotel Tierra Maya generates its own electricity by virtue of solar panels coupled with a generator plant consisting of three generators.

Fresh water, as is common in remote, tropical locations, is a precious commodity and gathered mostly by rain collected on the roofs of individual buildings, channeled into underground cisterns and ultimately pumped into each room. Hotel Tierra Maya provides bottled drinking water for their guests in each of the guest suites and uses only purified water for cooking.

We hope that we may have the pleasure of welcoming you to Xcalak in the near future and assure you of our utmost efforts to make your stay a pleasant one.
